Volunteers are needed in a variety of activities at our Centers of Excellence.

Here are ways that you can help:

Food Centers Support

  • Food Pantry Helpers – greet, stock food shelves, bag food, assist families to their cars.
  • Resale Shop Helpers – receive, sort and organize clothing and household items, assist shoppers.
  • Intake Process Helper – greet individuals/families that enter the center for food and verify eligibility.
  • Maintenance Helpers – provide assistance with sweeping, mopping, emptying waste baskets, rubbish disposal and general maintenance.
  • Clerical Helpers – assist with general office duties including answering the phone, data entry, filing, record keeping, large mailings, typing and special projects.
  • Food Center Program Advisory Council – provide monthly input and program recommendations to WSEM Food Centers.

 Early Childhood Education Support

  • Enrichment Volunteers – help staff enrich classroom experiences by sharing your expertise in art, music, culture, physical activities, cooking and more.
  • Readers – men and women, but especially mature males needed to read to 3-5 year olds in Head Start.
  • Field Trip Assistants – assist staff with children on outings to the zoo, cultural events and more.
  • Classroom Helpers – Assist staff in reinforcing lessons learned in the classroom by providing educational, art and activity support. 

El Barrio Workforce Development Support

  • English Tutors – provide English language remediation to Spanish-speaking and other language speaking clients.
  • College Internships – college students studying in the areas of adult or secondary education, social work, public administration, journalism are needed to provide program support.
  • Resume Reviewers – individuals are needed to review critique and make recommendations for client resumes.
  • Mock Interviewers – individuals are needed to hold mock interviews and make recommendations to clients for improvement.
  • Career Speakers – seasoned professionals are needed to speak to workforce development students, especially in the areas of customer service and construction.
  • Clerical Helpers – assist with general office duties including answering the phone, data entry, filing, record keeping, large mailings, typing and special projects. 

Counseling Solutions Support

  • College Internships – college students studying in the areas of psychology and social work are needed to provide program support. 

Fundraising Support

  • Special Event Helpers – provide the development staff assistance at annual fundraising events.
  • Special Project Coordinators – organize your workplace or club to take on special projects including: holiday toy and clothing collections, basic needs item collections, food drives, painting, gardening, clean-up, building outdoor recreational spaces for children.
  • Third Party Fundraisers – have your organization hold a fundraising event and donate the funds to WSEM to help children, youth and families that we serve.
