ways you can help
Volunteers are needed in a variety of activities at our Centers of Excellence.
Here are ways that you can help:
Food Centers Support
Food Helpers – sort, shelve, box and bag food, process orders, fill food requests.
Drivers – provide food and resale shop pick-up and deliveries. Class C driver's license and satisfactory DMV driving record required.
Resale Shop Helpers – receive, sort and organize clothing and household items, assist shoppers.
Community Outreach Helpers – help staff connect individuals with community outreach services by providing help with transportation, phone calls, application processes, research, computer work and other assistance.
Maintenance Helpers – provide assistance with sweeping, mopping, shoveling snow, and general maintenance.
Clerical Helpers – assist with general office duties including answering the phone, data entry, filing, record keeping, large mailings, typing and special projects.
Food Center Advisory Council – provide input and program recommendations to WSEM Food Centers.
El Barrio Workforce Development Support
English Tutors – provide English language remediation to Spanish-speaking and other language speaking clients.
College Internships – college students studying in the areas of adult or secondary education, social work and public administration are needed to provide program support.
Career Mentors – mentors are needed in the areas of customer service and construction.
Resume Reviewers – individuals are needed to review, critique and make recommendations for client resumes.
Career Speakers – seasoned professionals are needed to speak to workforce development students, especially in the areas of customer service and construction.
Clerical Helpers – assist with general office duties including answering the phone, data entry, filing, record keeping, large mailings, typing and special projects.
Early Childhood Education Support
Readers – men and women, but especially mature males needed to read to 3-5 year-olds in Head Start and Early Learning Initiative classrooms.
Field Trip Assistants – assist staff with children on outings to the zoo, cultural events and more.
Classroom Helpers – Assist staff in reinforcing lessons learned in the classroom by providing educational, art and activity support.
Enrichment Volunteers – help staff enrich classroom experiences by sharing your expertise in art, music, culture, physical activities, cooking and more.
Counseling Solutions Support
College Internships – college students studying in the areas of psychology and social work are needed to provide program support.
Fundraising Support
Special Event Helpers – provide the development staff assistance at annual fundraising events.
Special Project Coordinators – organize your workplace or club to take on special projects including: holiday toy and clothing collections , basic needs item collections , food drives , painting, gardening, clean-up, building outdoor recreational spaces for children.
Third Party Fundraisers – have your organization hold a fundraising event and donate the funds to WSEM to help children, youth and families that we serve.
